Daily Happenings

***Our internet outages are out of our control.  If you check this page and it hasn't been updated please call our office recorded line at 217-339-2487.

9/17/22-We watched the sun rise from the sweet corn patch for the last time this year. All the flags marking each patch have been picked up and stowed away for next season. Today we picked the last of the sweet corn that will be for sale at the Lingley Brothers stands.

Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston and Tilton. Now is the time to stock up on honey and get that one last taste of Sweetcorn for the season! We are blessed to have such wonderful customers that support our family farm. Thank you!

9/16/22-We started our last patch this morning and we will finish it tomorrow.

Friday - corn and honey in Tilton and Rantoul. This will be Rantoul's last day. Thank you for a great season.
Saturday - corn and honey in Tilton and Hoopeston. Saturday will be the last day of the season. Stock up on your honey and get one last dose of sweet corn for the season!

9/15/22- Just a reminder...no corn today.  Toby will scout the patch and make a plan for our last small patch.

9/14/22-And then there was one....we are down to one small patch of corn. None of our stands will be open tomorrow and we will make a decision about the weekend tomorrow after Toby scouts the patch. The last patch may yield is a couple more days of corn, but we are not sure. Stay tuned for the plans for the weekend and this last patch of summer goodness!

Today however, we will have corn and honey in Hoopeston, Tilton and Rantoul. Don't wait until the last minute to get your corn. At this point in the season everything is unpredictable. Late season corn is just that way.

9/13/22-Today we have corn and honey in Tilton, Hoopeston, and Attica. Attica this will be your last day for the season. Thank you for all your loyalty and support. Rantoul we will be back tomorrow. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

9/12/22-It was a chilly one this morning! Everyone bundled up to pick except Toby. We are approaching our last few days for the season. Each day will be different just because we are trying to spread it out so that all the stands get some. Today we have corn and honey in Tilton, Hoopeston, and Rantoul. We are going to try and get corn to Attica either Tuesday or Wednesday so stay tuned for that. Now is the time to get some corn frozen if you haven't already, or maybe freeze a few bags for vegetable soup or corn chowder this winter. Nothing like putting a little summer goodness in your winter meals. All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

9/10/22-Toby came home last night after selling and looking at the patch he just doesn't feel comfortable picking again. The corn did not make enough progress to justify picking and wasting all the young stuff. So unfortunately that means all the stands will be closed on Saturday (9/10) and we will pick on Monday (9/12). Have a great weekend!

9/9/22-Well the best laid plans sometimes don't go as planned. We picked a little corn this morning and it's still on the young side so we stopped. Corn and honey will only be available in Tilton today. We have not made a decision on tomorrow yet, but if it doesn't change considerably today we may have to wait until Monday. It's a wait and see what happens today. These last patches of corn are always challenging because the daylight is not as long and the temps are not as warm and this patch is no different. Late season corn is hard to grow. Thank you for your loyalty and patience and for supporting our family farm.

9-8-22-The barnlot is quiet this morning. Toby went out and checked the patch and it's not quite ready. No corn today at any of the stands. We will try tomorrow. The end of the season will be sometime next week.

9-7-22-Today we will have corn and honey in Tilton, Hoopeston, and Attica.  Take advantage of when we are at the stands, the end of the season is approaching quickly!  All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out of 5pm.

9/6/22-Looks like by this weekend we will be through a huge chunk of what we have left for the season. We are down to our final patches. Today we have corn and honey in Tilton, Hoopeston, and Rantoul. We are going to try and be in Attica tomorrow. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

9/2/22-If you need corn for the weekend make sure you get to the stands early. Today is the last of the corn for the weekend. The corn is limited! Today our Hoopeston and Tilton stands are open with corn and honey. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm. The Hoopeston stand is across from the new Caseys and the Tilton stand is in the Family Dollar parking lot.

9/1/22-Good morning from the sweet corn patch! We have a plan!!! Today we will have corn and honey in Tilton and Rantoul. Tomorrow (Friday) we will have corn and honey in Tilton and Hoopeston. This will be the corn for the weekend. The next patch is not and will not be ready for the weekend. We will keep looking at it for next Tuesday. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm. If you want corn for the weekend do not delay in getting to the stands. I cannot stress this enough. The corn is limited!

8/31/22-Today we have corn and honey in Tilton Hoopeston and Rantoul. This is the last day we will have the footballs. Tomorrow we move to the late season variety. Corn for the rest of the week will be limited. We will not know how limited until we pick tomorrow. Check back tomorrow after 8:30 to see where we will have corn the rest of the week and into the weekend.
8/30/22-Well the cold front blew in, rain we kept missing all season finally hit last night. 3 inches of rain and it's still raining made it too much of a risk of it being too young to "maybe" get the corn picked so we will wait until it has time to settle and try again on Wednesday. No stands will be open today (Tuesday).

8/29/22-It's Monday and none of our stands are open today. The corn is on the young side and we don't want to waste any of it. Hopefully tomorrow we can get some picked and have a better plan for the upcoming week. We know that corn will be limited. Have a great day!

8/27/22-Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston Rantoul and Tilton. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm. Remember No Sunday corn sales so get your weekend corn today. The status of Labor day weekend corn remains uncertain. Toby and I hope to be able to scout the patch tomorrow when we have a little more time and hopeful have a clearer picture. Thank you for your loyalty and for supporting our family farm.

8/26/22-Trying to figure out the best way to pick this and get the most dozens is challenging. Today we have corn and honey in Tilton Hoopeston and Rantoul. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

8/25/22-The days are getting shorter and it's very dark when we start picking these days. Take advantage of the summer goodness while you can. Today we have corn and honey in Hoopeston and Tilton. Tomorrow we start our last patch of "footballs" and then we have a couple more patches of our late season corn and then we'll be done. Corn supply is limited and day to day. Check in daily to see where we are each day. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

8/24/22-Today we have corn and honey available in Tilton and Rantoul. Tomorrow is still up in the air. It will depend on how much is out there after we pick. The weekend is also uncertain so stay tuned. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

8/23/22-We have made it to the dicey part of the season. Today we will have corn and honey available in Tilton and Hoopeston. Tomorrow (Wednesday) Tilton and Rantoul. We cannot plan any further out then that. It's just too uncertain. We appreciate your patience and please know we would love to be at every stand, every day but that is not in the cards. Stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm. Stay tuned for more updates. It really will be day to day.

8/22/22- All of our stands are closed today.  The next patch is not ready and there is not much of it so we don't want to waste any of it.  It will be a day to day decision so keep checking back.

8/20/22- Today we have corn and honey available in Tilton, Rantoul, and Attica.  No Sunday corn sales so get your weekend corn today.  All stands open at 10am and close when we sell out or 5pm.  Do not delay in getting corn, we have been selling out early so if you need corn or want to freeze get to the stand early!  Have a great weekend!

8/19/22-Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston, Rantoul, Tilton, and Attica. All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

8/18/22-It's a brisk morning in the field today, but the corn looks great. We have reviews from several customers that this may be the best yet. We have been selling out early and people are taking advantage of this fabulous corn and putting it in the freezer. Today we have corn and honey available in Tilton, Hoopeston, and Rantoul. Our stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close we sell out or 5 pm. Remember it looks like there may be at least a couple of days next week when we won't have corn. The patches are getting smaller and the yield is going down. Thank you for your support of our family farm.

8/17/22-Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston Rantoul Tilton and Attica. All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm. This corn is in it's perfect prime. It is magnificent.

We want to let you know that after Saturday (the way it's shaping up) looks like the next patch will not be ready for the beginning of the week so we may have several days without corn. This may change, but this is where the season gets dicey. Smaller size patches and uneven stands because of lack of rain will make you want to check the page daily to find out where we are.

8/16/22-Happy Tuesday! Today corn and honey are available in Hoopeston Rantoul and Tilton. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.

8/15/22- Our TIlton and Attica stands are open with corn and honey.  All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm.  Take advantage of getting corn when we are out.

8/13/22-It's the weekend! Sometimes it feels like you aren't going to make it, but here we are! Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston, Rantoul, and Tilton. No Sunday corn sales so get your weekend corn today. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out. The gaps are going to start soon. We are seeing the effects of lack of moisture when this corn was germinating and the corn stand is thin and the yield is down. Take advantage of the opportunity to get corn when we are out. Don't wait and think it'll be there later because it may not be. It's not guaranteed that stands will be open everyday and in many cases it will depend of what we see when we pick each day. We appreciate all of our wonderful and loyal customers and friends who support our family farm. Have a great weekend!

8/12/22-Happy Friday! This corn is beautiful! Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston, Rantoul, Tilton, and Attica. All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out of 5pm. Remember Attica this is your chance for weekend corn!

8/9/22- Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston, Tilton, and Rantoul.  All stands open at 10am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5pm.  Make your plans to freeze corn soon.  The bounty of large yields and large ears will last the next couple of weeks.  After that the yields will not be as good and we may not be at every stnad everyday.  Take advantage of this beautiful corn.

8/6/22-The Lingley Brothers Sweetcorn crew says thanks for a great week. Today we have a gorgeous load of corn and some beautiful honey headed to Hoopeston Rantoul and Tilton. 8/4/22 - Sorry for the delay in the update...internet did not work this morning. We do not have any of our stands open today but we do plan to have all of them open tomorrow.

8/3/22-Today we have corn and honey available in Hoopeston, Rantoul, Tilton, and, Attica. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time and close when we sell out or 5 pm. Don't delay in getting corn in the freezer. Remember Attica is not a daily stand. We try to be there on Monday Wednesday and Friday.

We are watching the weather closely and based on the forecast we will probably not have corn tomorrow (Thursday).
Here's what we know.  We will start a new patch on Friday.  We have 3 good patches of corn left for sure.  After that we just don't know.  If we don't get the rain tomorrow the situation becomes even more dire.  Do not expect us to have much if anything in Sept.  After these 3 patches the corn will not be as plentiful so don't delay in getting your freezing corn done.

I cannot stress enough that you need to make plans for freezing corn soon. Toby scouted the later patches and we have just not had enough rain. We are not sure if we will have corn after Labor day. We will just have to wait and see.

8-1-22-Neither rain, nor mud, nor wind will keep us from picking corn, but we will stop for lightening! Today we got corn picked but it was more challenging as we stopped for awhile for lightening. Tilton, Hoopeston, Attica, and Rantoul will be open with corn and honey. It may be limited so don't delay getting to the stands. All stands open at 10 am Illinois time.

7/22/22-We started a new patch today and Toby feels like it's a little bit in the young side. We would waste too much if we kept picking so today we have very limited corn and honey in Hoopeston and Attica. We will try again tomorrow's and hopefully today's heat will bring it along nicely for a big day tomorrow. I will let everyone know that this corn is fantastic! We are so pleased with the taste and it looks like it will yield well. This bodes well for the upcoming week of corn. This corn is what we call the "football ". Thank you all for a great first week.

7/15/22-After picking today and then scouting the corn Toby feels like it is going to be been to wait until Saturday to pick again. He feels like it is going to be fantastic, well filled out, and delicious and we won't waste so much of it by walking by the young ears.

7/14/22- The sweetcorn season is underway, well sort of.  We went out and picked this morning and found the patch to be a little younger then we would have liked.  We have corn available in Hoopeston today along with honey.  We will see how the patch progresses today to make decisions about tomorrow.

Tomato Time

Here it is nearly the third week of January.  Every year my traditional starting time for starting tomatoes from seed is my daughter Jenna's birthday on the 26th.  Easy for me to remember yet every year it seems to sneak up on me.  I have gone back and forth as to whether that is too early or not.  I have waited more toward Valentines Day a few times and it seems like circumstances or weather make either an early or later start the wrong choice for the year.  I start and transplant in the basement where temperatures are cool, keeping the plants under an array of shoplights.  The normally cold (60 degree or so) temps will keep them small and encourage stocky growth.  Sometimes when I start them earlier, I have ended up with warmer conditions and they grow too much.  If I choose later, inevitably I end up with some sort of germination problem or other setback from which I don't have much time to recover.  This year I think I will split the difference, starting SOME now and SOME later....see how that goes!
